Anvil Group is a Christian youth group aimed at anyone from year 7 up. We meet every Sunday evening, for services and social activites. Aside from this, we do a range of other things, including bowling, ice-skating, theatre, London and weekends away to various Christian centres. These weekends always provide great enjoyment, and our exotic destinations have so far included Yardley Hastings, Letton Hall in Norfolk, and Legge House in Swindon.
Our partner churches
Our partner church is in a small town in Germany called Alsenz. In 2000, Harmony were invited to go over and sing in our exchange visit, which was then biennial. This introduced 6 of us to the scheme, and since we enjoyed it so much, it was agreed that the German youth would come over the following summer, rather than waiting out the full two years. So, the following summer brought 9 of their youth over to England, and in the summer of 2002 we saw a much larger group, not only consisting of youth but anyone and everyone of all age groups. last year, 2003, the youth group Christ Church (plus a number of cousins!) returned to Alsenz. It was a fantastic week none of us will lightly forget. (See more about it at www.anvilatgermany.20m.com)
We also have a partner youth group who are from St John's URC in Orpington. For the past few years, both youth groups have done several combined weekends away to Yardley Hastings, a URC youth centre, and since then to Letton Hall, and Legge House. (See www.anvilatlettonhall.20m.com) Now, we have a joint "St John's and Anvil Group" programme, so that anything happening with Anvil Group, St John's are also automatically invited, although there are plans for more Christ Church only events throughout the year, including the German exchange.
